Most teams dread performance reviews.
Sep 03, 2025Most teams dread performance reviews.
They feel like judgment days. Numbers on a spreadsheet. A verdict on your worth.
But growth isn’t a verdict. It’s a story.
When I work with teams, I’ve seen that the most powerful growth moments don’t come from ratings. They come from reflection.
👉 Looking back at what we created together.
👉 Naming the skills we’ve gained.
👉 Sharing the struggles we overcame.
👉 Celebrating the achievements along the way.
Growth becomes visible when we make it visible.
That’s why I always ask: How do you show progress, not just measure it?
Some teams build a wall of “Shine & Share” moments. Others keep a simple log of lessons learned each week. The format doesn’t matter. What matters is that everyone can see their own fingerprints on the progress.
Because when growth is transparent, performance reviews stop being a source of fear.
They become a source of pride.
So here’s my challenge to you:
Next time you’re about to fill out a review form—pause.
Ask your team: What are we proud of? What did we learn?
And don’t just record it. Celebrate it.
Because that’s the growth that lasts.
