Jul 04, 2025šµ The upcoming week, I’m off.
(At least, that’s the idea.)
Forced holiday — not by anyone else, but by me.
A week without meetings. A week offline.
Although… let’s be honest — I probably won’t manage that completely.
I’m always curious.
Every day I look things up.
I get inspired by what others write, post, record, create.
š« 3 years ago, I started my own company.
People said: “Must be great to finally control your own schedule!”
And yes — back when I was a team leader at a school, I actually did.
I had a solid rhythm:
ā Time for emails
ā Time for learners and colleagues
ā Time to observe, to read, to think
ā Even a weekly block for “whatever’s left” — literally in my calendar.
Then I started my business.
And that rhythm was quickly overruled…
by the availability and urgency of others.
Turns out: when you’ve always worked in schools,
you build up a reliable sense of flow.
But your holidays?
They’re planned for you.
Now I had to plan them myself —
with clients across time zones, continents, and hemispheres.
āļø In my old job, I had five weeks off in July and August.
Now I discovered:
→ Scandinavian and Dutch school holidays don’t line up.
→ Schools on the Southern Hemisphere have no “summer break” in July.
→ In India, the school year doesn’t start in January or August.
Before I knew it, I had something booked every week of the so-called summer.
š” This year, it’s different.
I’ve slowly taken back control of my schedule.
Not perfectly. But intentionally.
So yes — this week is a holiday.
A bit of quiet. Some wandering. Some wondering.
š Wondering whether I’ll still be posting this week?
I will.
I worked ahead — and the posts are scheduled, ready to go.
So feel free to keep reading. I’ll catch up later.
