Why don’t most school innovations stand the test of time?
Nov 18, 2025Why don’t most school innovations stand the test of time? Because you can’t force change from the top, and it won’t magically appear from the bottom either. Real change grows when teams celebrate what already works and build from their own wins.
Do you ever take the time to pause with your team, feel proud of what’s going well and use that energy to move forward? That’s exactly what’s happening in this picture of our last visit to Varde.
Teachers, pedagogues and school leaders stood surrounded by bright yellow post-its filled with proud moments. On the left you see the allLearners building blocks covered with daily wins: learners taking ownership, lessons that finally clicked, risks that paid off. On the right the management team added reflections from earlier sessions, shared with their colleagues to spark new ideas. You could feel the energy shift.
Because change doesn’t happen top-down or bottom-up. It happens in harmony when people meet, reflect and dare to be vulnerable, with shared ownership across the whole organisation.
And here’s the win: by the end of the day, the group decided that we should do this every month. Not because someone instructed them, but because it creates connection, shared responsibility and a culture of continuous development that they feel is genuinely theirs.
